Reference Project

90 mm Halogen High Beam Module for Military Combat Vehicles

Project Description

A high-performance and at the same time extremely robust lighting solution was implemented for use in military combat vehicles. The project focused on reliable light performance, high mechanical durability, and compliance with international approval requirements. In addition, the system was required to allow easy integration into existing vehicle platforms and to be suitable for series production.

Requirements

The application required a modular 90 mm halogen high beam with very good light output and ECE approval. The housing had to be made of reinforced die-cast aluminium to withstand the high mechanical loads encountered in military operations. Furthermore, standardised mounting points, compatibility with a 24 V electrical system, and high resistance to vibration, temperature fluctuations, and environmental influences were required.

Our Solution

A proven 90 mm halogen high beam system from Nolden was selected, consisting of:

  • 90900HF-24V – 90 mm Halogen High Beam
  • 90900HFP-24V – 90 mm Halogen High Beam with Position Light

The modules are fully validated for series use and are currently in ongoing production.

Technical Highlights

The system features a robust die-cast aluminium housing with a hardened glass outer lens and is designed for an operating temperature range from −40 °C to +80 °C. With a power consumption of 55 W in high beam operation and the proven Philips H11 light source, the module provides reliable and uniform illumination. The 4-point mounting concept ensures secure installation and facilitates integration into different vehicle concepts.

Product Highlights (NOLDEN 90900HF-24V / 90900HFP-24V)

  • The module is part of the modular NOLDEN 90 mm lighting family and is available in 12 V and 24 V versions, with or without integrated position light. This modular approach supports component standardisation across different vehicle platforms and configurations.
  • Compact installation dimensions of 90 mm × 86 mm combined with a low weight of approximately 270 g enable straightforward integration, even in vehicles with limited installation space.
  • An integrated ventilation membrane effectively reduces the risk of internal condensation, thereby enhancing long-term reliability under demanding environmental and climatic conditions.
  • A high beam Reference Value of 10 ensures compliance with regulatory light intensity requirements and allows flexible configuration of the overall vehicle lighting system without exceeding homologation limits.

Customer Benefits

  • High reliability in military operations
  • Easy integration thanks to the standardised design
  • Long-term availability and spare parts security
  • Reduced development effort through the use of a series product
  • Scalable solution for fleet and serial vehicle applications

Project Status

The project has been successfully transferred into series production and is currently in active operation. The solution is deployed in military vehicles and is designed for an annual production volume of approximately 200 to 300 modules, corresponding to around 50 to 80 vehicles per year.
