<p>Vicor’s new IBC048 series of VI BRICK Intermediate Bus Converters and IB050Q096T70N1-00 VI BRICK bus converter offer double the power density. Initial IBC048 series products include 300 W and 500 W parts providing 9.6 or 12 V outputs from a nominal 48 V input, with a tolerated input range of 38 V to 55 V. Further members of the IBC family are planned for future release. They function as pin-compatible drop-in upgrades for eighth-brick and quarter-brick 5:1 and 4:1 intermediate bus converters.</p>
<p>The quarter brick IB050Q096T70N1-00 VI BRICK Bus Converter is part of the IBC050 series of intermediate bus converters, offering a 36 V to 60 V input voltage range at power levels up to 750 W, 2,250 Vdc isolation and over 98% peak efficiency. With its wide input range, the device complies with the ETSI EN300 132-2 standard for 48 V telecom applications requiring 5:1 bus conversion. Its input-to-output isolation complies with IEEE 802.3 Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) standards. The module’s low effective output resistance of 3.4 milliohms allows bus voltages of 7 V to 12 V over the line range. Its full 750 W output power is available for inputs of 54 V or above.</p>
<p>The IBC modules’ open frame configuration contains Vicor’s proprietary Sine Amplitude Converter (SAC) engine, which has already been proven by millions of V·I Chips within demanding and densely-packed power applications. The modules’ high frequency switching cuts their transient response time from 200 to 20 microseconds, eliminating the need for bulk capacitors. SAC technology uses zero current switching (ZCS) and zero voltage switching (ZVS), which reduces noise and allows smaller, less costly filtering components.</p>
<p>The technology is also extremely efficient, peaking at 98% on full load, and maintaining high levels at lower loads. This allows a significantly higher power density and thermal management is simplified as power dissipation and heat is a third less than competing products’. The IB050Q096T70N1-00 can deliver full power at 55˚C ambient with no heatsink and only 200 LFM of airflow. Very high power output at temperatures up to 85˚C ambient can be achieved by varying air flow rates.</p>
<p>The modules are low profile and the IBC048 series’ industry standard eighth brick package is pin compatible with both eighth and quarter brick bus converters. Overall, the bricks were designed as drop-in replacements with all parameters equal to or exceeding those of any competing products. Typical applications include networking, computing and data storage, as well as telecom, industrial and test equipment.</p>

Key features include a very small footprint, 90% efficiency and a wide choice of input and output voltages.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There are two versions – standard and enhanced &#8211; designed to comply fully with the latest rail specifications and norms for protection and EMC. The enhanced version is intended for those applications needing compliance with class S2 supply interruptions where a 10ms hold-up time is required. All nominal vehicle battery voltages are catered for by just two models, and the enhanced version adds active inrush current limiting and “good” output indication.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The new VER series DC/DC converters feature a very small footprint (110 x 70 x 40mm for the standard version) and are extremely cost effective. The low voltage input version covers 24 and 36V nominal voltages, whilst the high voltage version is suitable for 72, 96 and 110V nominals. Output voltages can be specified from 12V to 48VDC and maximum output power is 100W.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">All models are fully compliant with rail standards including EN50155 and EN50121.3.2 An optional ventilated steel cover is available giving protection to IP20. Operating temperature range is -40ºC to +70ºC with no derating</p>

<p><strong></strong>Picor’s new Cool-Power<sup>®</sup> 60 W Isolated DC-DC converter brings revolutionary levels of space saving and power density. With less than half the footprint of conventional solutions, it meets next-generation high-end system demands for more voltage rails and greater power within shrinking PCB areas. The Cool-Power<sup>®</sup> platform provides significant system-level improvements over conventional power distribution schemes. It combines the flexibility to deliver isolated power direct at the point-of-load, a dramatic reduction in overall power system size and increased power density, while maintaining a low number of conversion stages and low distribution losses.</p>
<p>The P13101 Cool-Power<sup>®</sup> converter’s advantages arise from a combination of various innovative technical concepts. Its novel thermally enhanced surface-mount Power System-in-Package (PSiP) implementation integrates isolation, regulation and voltage transformation into a single component that operates at up to 87% efficiency and resembles an IC more than a power supply in size and appearance. The Cool-Power<sup>®</sup> converter uses a proprietary ZVS topology with advanced silicon integration, state of the art planar magnetics and high performance power semiconductor technology which enables its high switching frequencies.</p>
<p>The high switching frequency of 900kHz allows for small input and output filter components, further reducing the total size and cost of the overall system solution. The converter accepts a wide input voltage ranging from 36 to 75 V, providing a regulated 3.3 V output at up to 18 A. Coupled with its tiny footprint of 3.6 cm<sup>2</sup> and very low 6.7 mm profile, this represents a power density of 25 W/cm<sup>3</sup>, which is up to 3 times better than existing solutions.</p>
<p>Its rich feature set includes output voltage trim capability, remote on/off ENABLE, output over-voltage protection, adjustable soft-start, over-current protection with auto-restart, over and under input voltage lockout and an analogue voltage output that tracks internal junction temperature to support temperature monitoring, fault alarm and shutdown functions.</p>
<p>Applications include Power Over Ethernet (PoE), telecom environments that must withstand 100 V transients, wireless infrastructure and systems, other communications systems such as 3G, network infrastructure components including optical networks, network power systems, switchers and routers. In summary, Cool-Power<sup>®</sup> is ideal for any load up to 60 W requiring a high performance, high density and flexible power conversion solution.</p>

With a wide input range of 9 to 36V, the modules are appropriate for MIL-COTS and industrial applications operating from 12V or 24V inputs, which are typical for battery systems in vehicles. Fully encapsulated, Vicor Mini modules utilize a proprietary spin-fill process to assure complete, void-free encapsulation making them suitable for the harshest environments.</p>
